Sometimes the Best Part of Overlanding Is Just Sitting by the Water

There’s a tendency with overlanding to always be thinking about what comes next.

What trail are we taking?

How many miles do we need to cover?

Where are we camping tonight?

Is there enough fuel?

What’s around the next corner?

But every once in a while, you find a place that makes all those questions seem a little less important.

You park the van.

And sit by the water.

Nowhere Else to Be

Water has a way of changing the pace of a trip.

Maybe it’s a mountain lake tucked at the end of a forest road. Maybe it’s a river running alongside camp. Maybe it’s a reservoir in the middle of a landscape that seems far too dry to have that much blue in it.

There’s no activity planned.

No attraction to check off a list.

No reason to get back in the van.

Just a place to sit.
